Advance preparation with a plan is a critical element. I see many folks who tell me that they are “looking for work”. I now have a habit of asking one simple question “Oh, good. Where did you apply today?” Often, the answer is “Nowhere”. Since the same answer applies for every day this week, last week, and stretches all the way back to approximately two weeks into the job search, I assume this indicates someone who is without a plan.
Wait It Out: It is an exercise in futility to attempt reasoning with a child – especially one in the middle of a total meltdown! Often, the tantrum will just have to run its course, so depending on where you are you may need to place the child in a safe location to wait it out. One of my daughters (she is 10 now, so this has been 5 or 6 years ago) could throw a fit the likes of which you would not believe. Dealing with tantrums with her was literally impossible, so we would put her someplace quiet to ride out the storm. Sometimes it took several hours before she wore herself out and fell asleep.

Now I am almost 43 years old, I live on products for seniors catalog. Positively Distract: Redirect the child by getting him/her focused on something else. For example, you might use the line “Do you want to go look at the fish?” Some kids will fall for this one, but I know my girls are very difficult to distract once they reach the tantrum stage.
The second step is to look at the back. Starting with the skin, is there an isolated rash that might be shingles? Is there an infected cyst or an area of skin infection, such as one surrounding a tick bite? Now look at the posture. Is the back too straight, as from muscle spasm? Does it curve to the left or right (scoliosis), and is this a permanent finding or is it due to muscle spasm? Does the back curve too far toward the front (lordosis), maybe due to a prominent “pot belly?” As part of this process your doctor might make other observations. Do walking and standing make the pain worse, and is it primarily movement of one leg that seems to cause the problem? When one sits in a chair, does he slouch with poor posture, or sit too straight from muscle spasm?
Spouse or child of veteran who lost their life in combat. Now this is the tricky part. Yes it is unfortunate if your parent has died, but be sure to note. You will still recieve it even if they die prior to you going to college. As long as you have viable proof of them being a parent and their documentation you should have no problem recieving it.
Job searches are hard. And they get harder the longer they take. Stay focused, have a vision, and keep working toward it. If you can, work steadily and regularly. Set aside time. Develop a plan, find a buddy, and keep moving toward the goal. Be honest, don’t kid yourself (and others), and take small achievable steps forward.
